How to paint the plastic trim around my car the same color of the car..?

1st: remove the trim frm the car.

2nd: wash the trims with soap and water and let them dry

3rd: while they are drying go to a specialist paint shop and buy:

cleaner: which removes any grease ,wax etc that might be on

the trim.paint will flake off as it wont stick to

contaminated surfaces

primer: the special primer made for plastic trim, not the normal

one

paint: take the car with you and the guys in the shop will read

the code off your car and mix a can of paint matching yr

car

lacquer: if your car is metallic paint then you will also need

a can of lacquer that will make the paint shine.

fine grade wet and dry sand paper: to lightly sand the paint

between coats of paint

when back home take all the trim where you can spray it in a dust free well ventilated place. where is up to what your place has and can offer. a garage is good.

1st: clean each trim carefullly with the cleaner and lay it aside. dont touch the parts you are gonna paint after you have cleaned them (you can touch the reverse sides to move them about)

2nd: shake the primer can for at least 2 mins then get a scrap piece of cardboard and spray a few strokes to check the can works and get some practice strokes in. now spray each trim slowly. smooth strokes. spray one or two strokes . give it 2 to3 minutes to go off then spray some more. build the paint up very slowly to prevent too much wet paint on the trim which will run and create a mess which you will the have to clean off (nightmare)

when the trims have been coated in primer leave them for at least 24 hours to dry. dont touch with your fingers to see if it has gone off just leave it alone for 24 hours.

when dry.get a small tub with water in. throw in a few pieces of the sandpaper and let it absorb the water. then lightly sand the primer to remove any tiny bumps and the rough surface. when it is smooth wash it and let it dry. when dry lightly wipe it with the cleaner on a lint free cloth to create a clean, now smooth surface for the paint to stick to.

3rd shake the can of paint for 2 minutes minimum. get a scrap piece of cardboard and spray a few strokes to check the can works and get some practice strokes in. now start spraying the trims one at a time. spray smooth strokes from before the start of the end of the trim all the way past the end of the trim. build the paint up slowly.the first strokes will look like you havent put any paint on but this is where you have to be patient. dont load on masses of paint immediately. as you build up you will slowly you will see that the paint is covering the trim. once done dont touch it and let it dry for 24 hours.

4th.if you have lacquer repeat the above 3rd step but this time spray on the lacquer. leave to dry for 24 hours and then carefully replace the trim on to your car.you may need to go to the main dealer to buy some of the plastic clips that might have broken when you took the trims off but they are really cheap.

now stand back and admire your work and think of all the money you saved not paying someone else to do it.

Yes do get the paint from a car paint place. It is a special paint and not just a regular spray paint. You also need to prime it first. If you can't take the trim off,and don't have a book for the car, a body shop can help you probably for free. How to paint the plastic trim around my car the same color of the car..?
If it is removable remove it and spray it from a paint can then when its dry put it back together again. take the trim to the shop and they will try and match your car colour.
