Yes, it's a good move because if you get the tint you want you really don't need to paint on top of the primer.

Have you ever used the diy website? Go on www.diy.com. Or talk to someone in the store where you're going to be getting your primer and paint and see what they suggest that you do as far as altering the color of the primer.

Yes, you can, but the effectiveness will depend on the color you want. I have a red wall, and even though I tinted the primer it still took me about 5 coats to make it look even... Red is supposed to be the worst for covering anyway. Other colors (even if deep) should be fine.
I WORKED AT A HARDWARE STORE FOR NINE YEARS AND I MIXED PRIMER ALL THE TIME..FIND A GOOD ONE AND EXPLAIN WHAT YOU WANT TO THEM THEY WOULD BE GLAD TO HELP YOU..WHEN YOU COLOR YOUR PRIMER YOU USE LESS PAINT. IT MAY NOT BE THE SAME COLOR.BUT DARK COLORED PAINT USE A DARK PRIMER.IT WORKS...
