Question about color/paint jobs for cars/vehicles..?

The other day, I was with my friend and we were driving home from the mall. We stopped at a stoplight and there was this awesome COLOR of a car. I couldn't exactly catch the model of the car's name but the color of the car was amazing! What do you call the color that is like holographic color? I've only seen TWO cars like this in my life! It has a fancy paint job because when I saw it the colors seemed to change from one to another. It cahnged from blue to red to purple and it was extrememly sparkly and irridescent. My b/f's brother told me that a paint job like that had to have been expensive. I asked my parents and they had no idea, maybe a metallic color. I want to say the car was a Seabringer, thats what it seemed to say on the back. The car was extremely sporty looking.Question about color/paint jobs for cars/vehicles..?
In America the color is routinely called Chameleon. However every paint maker calls it something else. I am certain any body shop will know what you mean if you called it Chameleon. It is pricey and looks best on cars that are organic or rounded. boxy vehicles with this paint look weird since the transitions between colors are often abrupt making it look like it has 1 color for the hood another for the door and another on the fender. Flip Flops. Mystic, Pearls, Iridescent and other words also can be used to describe this paint and effect.Question about color/paint jobs for cars/vehicles..?
The color is actually called a Chameleon color. There are a few different ones out there but they are custom paint jobs. If you wanted to go ';cheap'; you could get the paint kit from an auto parts store and do it yourself but you are looking at a lot of work and unless you know what you're doing, it might not turn out so great. It is a custom paint job though and I believe you can get whatever two colors or more colors you want but you'll need to talk to a auto body paint shop for that.
Some of the Mustangs and a few GM cars have that paint option where it seems to change colors as the light angle changes. The paint, I think, was developed by BASF which is a German company. It's an option on some new cars and is a bit expensive. You'd probably have to hunt for a while to find a paint shop that can do it after market.
It's called multi-tone and is used by Fiat, Alfa Romeo and TVR amongst others, any paint shop will supply it.
