I am in the process of repainting my basement. currently the walls are white as all basement usually are.. i have 3 windows in my basement so that is a plus for me...i am stuck on what color i should paint the walls...HELP!What color to paint basement...?
You want the brightest, most cheerful colors possible in your basement. Because basements are underground and have fewer windows than anywhere else in the house, it's really important to find as many ways as possible to bring some joy into the space and get rid of that ';dungeon'; feeling.
I like a good, subtle cream yellow color for the walls to take away the institutional feeling of the basement without losing the brightness advantage. Beige is a nice color choice too, if it's light enough.
However, I'd challenge you to take it to the next level. Make your basement space as bright and cheerful as possible. Put some large mirrors on the walls to reflect light and give the illusion of extra space. Toss in some pictures- especially pictures of porches or outside scenes to give the illusion of more windows.
Invest in an aquarium- I like my 55 gallon setup. Use a good fluorescent light and tons of natural plants. It's hard to keep house plants alive in a basement but aquariums come with their own light source. It'll give life and light to the space. If you're looking for an inexpensive, easy to keep fish, try fancy guppies- they're very active and will do a lot to stop the gloomy feeling.
If you're willing to upgrade your basement door, replace it with a French doors- doors with glass panes. That'll let in even more light and make the space feel more like a part of the home.
Good luck!
ETA: PLEASE don't install wood walls in the basement. I work in basement waterproofing and I've seen way too many basements with wood walls destroyed by the moisture that seeps through the concrete walls! What color to paint basement...?
Earthy colors are always a win-win situation in a basement. They help light travel throughout the room and also go with pretty much whatever floor you have in.
If you have the money, I would suggest wood panels for the walls, in a basement it looks really cozy and can almost seem like you left your house and are at a cabin up north or something to that extent.
Check out this website for a easy faux brick wall. That might look good on a end wall. Light to medium gray for the rest of the walls.
I like pastel colors on walls, they make the room seem bigger, creams, light pink or blue, or green would be nice.
