I have a sectional sofa in my living room. The bottom of the sofa is dark brown leather and the top portion (cushions) is light beige/cream color. I don't want to paint my house in the neutral colors because of my sofas. I have hard wood floor too - light oak color. I was thinking about going w/ a light blue to bring out my sofas. I am still not sure, however.
Any suggestions or ideas? What color to paint living room?
Blue would look very fresh with the neutrals you have going already.
A nice soft medium value blue would be a nice balance. If you go too light it will seem pastelly and you don't want ';baby boy blue'; (nursery blue). Stick to medium value and lean toward a green er blue than a more purple blue.
A few I suggest you check out are:
Respite (SW6514) or Take Five (SW6513)
Rain (SW6219)
Meditative (SW6227)

Hope that helps! What color to paint living room?
dark brown
A light blue would be nice -- just make sure it's more of a grey blue (not so saturated). That's a designer's trick to make sure the blue is soft enough on the walls.
Also, I found this online in Benjamine Moore Auras, and it's a nice color combo...

Using Blue Echo on the walls (or you could ask for a lighter version of this color) along with accents of Jojoba and Anjou Pear.
Another idea is doing a molding halfway around the room (like a chair rail molding) and painting the bottom a greenish-greyish blue and the top portion like the anjou pear color or a rich cream color.
Chocolate brown (or whatever color the bottom half of the sofa is). The cream part of the sofa and the hard wood floors would POP against the dark walls.
How about cream or beige walls, with dark red or dark blue accents
A light blue would look nice. You could also try a burnt orange or chocolate brown. Those would look nice with your sofa I believe.
I would stay away from the light blue. Consider a complemetary color to the brown and beige. With all those neutral colors, it sounds like you might need to go dark. My suggestions are midnight blue or a darker red. (not deep lipstick red) A red with some black in it.
My LR is Red with a hint on the orange.Looks great with Brown and Beige.
I think a light blue would look beautiful. Maybe check out the color ';North Star'; by Sherwin Williams:
