want to paint it goldCan i use spray paint to change the color of my macbook? if so, what brand?
It's your computer, you can do what you like..BUT:
Is it still under warranty? It will be very hard to get a clean paint job without taking it out of the shell, and you may risk voiding the warranty. You really need to know what you're doing here.
Krylon or other acrylic spray paint will stick ok, but it's much harder than you'd think to get an even finish. And you absolutely must tape off all the functional bits (ports, latches). Also, a home spray job will be more susceptible to nicks, scratches and flaking. You can minimise this with a primer, since the plastic surface is rather slick, but again you're looking at another level of hassle and risk.
You can get it professionally done but it costs at least $400. Yikes!
What about some fascinating decals instead?
ok, I just had a look at the instructables tutorial u u mentions. Pretty handy, and fun... but the guy is using a $25 thinkpad case, not a new macbook.
I noticed a sidebar link to a tutorial on putting a stencil on the top cover of the laptop. That could be a less invasive way to decorate it.Can i use spray paint to change the color of my macbook? if so, what brand?
I'm sure you could . . . don't know why you'd want to though.
If you do find a permanent paint that won't peel and is safe to handle just make sure you tape up all of your ports and a thin strip of tape around the opening where the two sides come together. otherwise you'll ruin it. personally I would find a round sticker and cover the apple logo to so you can peel it off after painting.
DONT do it yourself! unless you know how to take the laptop apart and put it back together. make sure you use hi quality paint and place a fixative after so that the paint will stick.
If not visit this site - they can paint it for you:

Why don't you just get a hard shell case that's gold or buy a hard shell case and paint it gold. Cause painting your macbook is not the brightest idea.

Testors, you can find it at Michales (idk how to spell the name) remember to use blue tape and use 2 layers because it might go through the tape
krylon, make sure you tape the edges, or take the entire guts out of the case, paint, then replace.
I wouldn't.
A lot of spray paints melt plastic.
I would try to find a gold sheet sticker to cover it.
You'd be crazy to do that.
