What color should I paint?

I'm moving to a new apartment. The carpet is very very white and there is a gray stone fireplace. My end tables and shelves are black. What color should I paint and what color should my new couch be? My boyfriend likes dark colors and I like anything besides white.What color should I paint?
Try a different color on each wall with the darkest color being on the focal point wall. Probably near the fireplace.

i think a burnt orange sounds nice, or maybe a deep shade of red. keep it earthy colours.
