I am looking for a french theme. I have this beautiful canvas painting that is made up of navy blue and light blue (french people dancing) that I want to hang on the wall. What color should I paint the wall that will go with the painting? I do not want to paint the room blue though. The carpet I have is a light brown color. Any suggestions? What color to paint my guest bedroom?
Your right ...yellow is a very contrasting/distracting color. It is too warm of a color for a guest bedroom.
This is a guest room ...so you want colors that will relax and soothe a person who is sleeping in a strange bed in a strange place.
The blue color that you described on the painting is a great start.
Have you thought about a nice soft gray color?
I think a great color scheme would be a dusty brown with medium grays and the blue as an accent color. The brown and gray would be a great neutral pallet with the blue standing out as refreshing burst of color.
I would paint the walls in a soft gray ....then use the brown in bedding, rugs and throw pillows....then add a few gray throw pillows with one or two blue ones to the bed.
Save some gray paint to paint some furniture accent pieces to put in the corner of the room.
Get some French style lamps to put on the bedside tables and paint them in the brown or gray color. Add some blue fringe to the lamp shade to match the blue in your painting.
A dress form with a formal French style gown on it would look nice as a decorative piece.
A small table with a French teapot and teacups for two would be very romantic to put on a small table below your painting. (As if the people will come out of the painting to have their tea at any moment.)
Lots of ideas are out there in the French Provencial design style. What color to paint my guest bedroom?
How about a coffee color! It's not beige or cream and it's not brown/chocolate, but in between and is a very warm color. And the best part is it goes with absolutely any color scheme...especially dark colors like Navy! I will say that the French Colonial style does tend to use dark colors...but the rooms are usually very large with a lot of light. If your room is small, you may want to go with a warm neutral color like the coffee and then accent it with a strip as a chair rail in a dark color like the dark red.
Maybe a light sage green.
Sherwin Williams ';sensible hue'; would be a great color for a backdrop for the art work, and would go well with the carpet.
Its a soft willow gray.
If you have a photo of the room with the painting on the wall, upload it into the makeover gallery at http://www.roomvues.com and they can paint your room any color you'd like. I think you just need to give them a little background info like here. This will atleast put you in the ballpark to narrow down your color choices.
It's really cool and free too!
--dark red would be my opinion
--light yellow would look good w/ the blue..not sure bout the brown carpet though
--maybe a light tan color
Either a maroon or a little darker brown
dark red and deep purple
I think tan would be great, you can never go wrong with it. But so its not boring you can texturize it. That is what we have along with matching ceilings its very classy and can be used for everything.
You want the guest to feel relaxed and tranguil like it's the master suit-I would suggest a cream or baige color.-maybe a dark brown color but with bursts of light blue and other light colors. Bark brown and blue go together really nicely.-hope that helps!!!!!! =)
Cream
white is the best colour for a guest room. trust me.
I would do a white - like ';marshmallow'; by sherwin williams. I think it would highlight the painting beautifully. And then if you get blue bedding, it would all tie together. Very classic.
OTOH if you don't want white, a yellow - like ';daffodil'; would look lovely, too:
